TRUSSVILLE – The 7th Annual Dancers Against Cancer Trussville Gala is set for this Saturday night at the Trussville Civic Center, hosted by Miss Kelley’s School of Dance.
The family friendly event raised roughly $35,000 last year and all proceeds from this year’s gala will be donated to I’m a Dancer Against Cancer, UAB Neuro-Oncology, and local families battling cancer.
“It’s just a lot of fun in the name of raising money for cancer,” said Emily Lombardo, who organizes the event along with the group’s junior board.
The marquee event of the gala will be the dance showcase featuring dancers from Miss Kelley’s, Hewitt-Trussville Middle School, and the Hewitt-Trussville High School Highsteppers.
Last year’s “Crowd Favorite,” as determined by donations from attendees, was Olivia Gay, an eighth grader who danced as part of the HTMS dance team and Miss Kelley’s competition team.
The event will also feature a dinner, silent auction, and raffles and will be capped off with the ever-popular dad dance at the end of the night.
“It’s just great that you see the community coming together for good and I’m just amazed at the amount of Trussville businesses that support the event,” Lombardo said, adding that students are “never too young to make a difference.”
The gala will start at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 24 and go until 10 p.m.
Tickets for VIP and regular tables have sold out, but $20 individual balcony seating tickets are still available and will be sold at the door.
