CHEROKEE COUNTY–Human remains recovered from a truck submerged in Weiss Lake last Friday have been identified as a man who went missing in 2013, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
Cherokee County Coroner Paul McDonald, in conjunction with the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences, confirmed the man’s identity as Oscar Lewis King, who was 72 when he went missing over 10 years ago.
According to the sheriff’s office, it appears King accidentally drove into the water off of a boat ramp located at the Chesnut Bay Resort near Leesburg.
According to Cherokee County Chief Deputy Josh Summerford, no foul play is suspected.
Sheriff Jeff Shaver said, “We are thankful that the case is now resolved and the family can gain closure in knowing what happened.”
