BIRMINGHAM — A major crash has closed Interstate 59 in Birmingham in both directions, according to the Alabama Department of Transportation. The two-vehicle crash occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday.
The crash is near the 4th Avenue South ramp in Roebuck.
Lanes will be closed for an undetermined length of time.
According to Birmingham Fire and Rescue, 7500 gallons of fuel was spilled in the accident. Officials said both drivers were extricated from the vehicles and taken to UAB hospital for injuries.
