TRUSSVILLE–The Trussville Police Department is investigating a reported traffic stop made Tuesday morning by a man allegedly posing as an ALEA state trooper, according to TPD Lt. Clint Riner.
The investigation comes following a report and a public Facebook post by Samantha Buckner of Springville who recounted her experience.
According to the post, Buckner was pulled over by what she thought was a police officer just past Exit 141 on I-59 traveling southbound.
The man who pulled her over was driving a silver four-door truck with a K-9 sticker on the back window and was flashing white and yellow colored lights.
He got out of the truck wearing normal clothes and a state of Alabama baseball cap and told her that he was an off-duty Alabama state trooper
When she questioned why he did not have red and blue lights, the man told her to get out of her car so he could show her the back of his truck, which he said had red and blue lights.
Buckner refused, and the man then told her to unbuckle and rebuckle her seat belt.
According to the post, the man said he would give her a verbal warning for “reckless driving and speeding” but that he would put a “wellness driving check” into the computer.
The man would not tell her his badge number but said his name was “Officer Rogan.”
Buckner then contacted the Springville Police Department, the Trussville Police Department, and ALEA to report her experience.
She warned, “Please be aware of your surroundings! If you happen to see the vehicle call the police, as all departments in the state should be aware of the situation.”
