CENTER POINT–A dump truck overturned on a road near Center Point today and struck a power pole, knocking out power, phone, and internet services in northeast Jefferson County, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 2:07 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Carson Road near Elfreth Johnson Road on a report of the incident.
The collision sparked a wood fire, causing significant damage to the downed power pole and lines.
The driver was removed from the truck by Center Point Fire and Rescue personnel and airlifted to UAB Hospital with significant injuries.
Though the fire has been extinguished, utility services said the extent of the damage means it could be an estimated six to eight hours before power, phone, and internet service is returned to full capacity in northeast Jefferson County.
