CENTER POINT–UPDATED: A six-year-old boy has died after being accidentally struck by a vehicle, according to Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates.
The child has been identified as Hunter Spanier, 6, of Center Point.
Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 700 block of 27th Avenue NE in Center Point just after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday after receiving a report of a child being struck by a car, according to Sheriff’s Office Lt. Joni Money.
According to the sheriff’s office, the boy had been hit by the vehicle as it was backing down the driveway of a residence.
The child was transported to Children’s Hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
According to the sheriff’s office, it does not appear that criminal activity was associated with this incident.
