BIRMINGHAM — Police officers in Birmingham have their hands full. After answering the call to investigate two separate homicides on Saturday, they were called to to the scene of a double homicide early Sunday morning.
They are now investigating yet another homicide on Sunday afternoon. Officers have been called to the 6200 block of Blocton Avenue.
The victim is the city’s fifth in two days, the tenth in the last nine days.
BPD Officer Truman Fitzgerald said officers were contacted about a person down at a business around 10 a.m. on Sunday. When they arrived, they found a Hispanic male who was unresponsive and suffering from unknown trauma.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel pronounced the man deceased.
Fitzgerald said investigators believe a passerby spotted the victim and notified police. He said the location is thought to be operating as a bar or lounge.
“Based on the evidence our officers and detectives have observed, lead us to believe this is a homicide investigation,” Fitzgerald said. “There is no one in custody.”
