JEFFERSON COUNTY — A 22-year-old Tuscaloosa man died Monday morning from injuries he sustained in a crash during a reported street race along I-59, according to Jefferson County Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates.
According to ALEA Corporal Reginal King, at approximately 7:58 a.m. on Sunday, George Edward Bishop III’s 2020 Genesis G70 struck a concrete barrier near the 119 mile marker close to Hueytown.
Bishop’s Genesis overturned and collided with a 2017 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Leamon K. Sullivan, 31, of Vestavia.
Bishop was transported to UAB Hospital following the crash where he succumbed to his injuries.
Sullivan was injured and transported to the Medical West Freestanding Emergency Department in Hoover.
Troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division will continue to investigate.
