BIRMINGHAM — Investigators with the Birmingham Police Department have had their hands full lately as the city investigates the twelfth homicide in the last 11 days.
The victim has been identified as Byron McNeal Jr., 28, of Bessemer.
According to BPD Officer Truman Fitzgerald, police received a call of a person shot just before 4 p.m. on Tuesday.
Officers were dispatched to 2nd Street North and 6th Avenue North where they found McNeal laying in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue transported McNeal to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Fitzgerald said investigators were working to determine what led up to the shooting.
