ARGO — The Argo City Council approved temporary pay raises for two city employees who will take on extra work due to the resignation of City Clerk Tommie Ebner. Assistant City Clerk Tabitha Hanner and Court Clerk / Magistrate Casie Bethune were approved to receive temporary extra compensation.
Hanner and Bethune will receive an extra $1 an hour and $2 an hour respectively. The increases are effective immediately and will extend until three month after a new clerk is in place.
The Council suspended the rules to consider a proposal to set a budget of $1500 for the upcoming Mayor’s Breakfast. Mayor Betty Bradley abstained. The motion was approved.
The Council also suspended the rules to immediately consider appointing a Council representative to the zoning board. The Council approved Mayor Pro Tempore Ann Brown to the position on the board. Brown abstained from the vote.
The Council approved a grant application for a planning grant and study to extend the exit from the interstate to the Hwy 11 intersection. If received, the $100,000 grant would require 20% matching funds.
Speaking to the Trussville Tribune, Mayor Bradley said extending the exit all the way to the intersection would ease some of the current congestion on the road and added it would only get worse without the expansion when developers begin work on the Glendale Farm property.
The next regular meeting of the Argo council is scheduled for April 8 with a work session at 5 p.m. and the regular meeting following immediately after the session. An agenda for each meeting is posted in local businesses including Hill Top Farms, Argo Hardware, Liberty Automotive, Shell, Southland BBQ, Fox’s Pizza and Buckeye Grocery. Agendas are also posted on the city’s Facebook page.
