BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a homicide investigation after a shooting that occurred on Saturday, April 13, that left a man dead, according to Sgt. LaQuitta Wade.
The victim was identified as Jeffry Padilla, 26, of Birmingham.
“At approximately 12 a.m., East Precinct officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation of one round fired in the 500 Block of 81st Street South,” Wade said. “While in route, the call was updated to a person shot.”
When officers arrived on the scene, they observed the Hispanic male victim lying face down in the front yard of a residence, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
“The preliminary investigation suggests the victim and unknown individuals were involved in a verbal altercation that resulted in the victim being wounded by gunfire,” Wade said. “The victim was a guest at the residence.”
Further details are limited in this investigation. There is no one in custody.
