OAK MOUNTAIN—The fifth-ranked Hewitt Huskies improved to 25-7 on the season and 3-2 in area play with a 6-1 win over the Oak Mountain Eagles Tuesday night.
The Huskies got on the board first with an RBI by Carson Wideman that scored Steele Hall.
Hall returned the favor with an RBI in the second, scoring Sam Scarborough to make the game 2-0.
Christian Helmers scored on a Drew Ollis RBI to give Hewitt a 3-0 lead in the fourth.
Oak Mountain got on the board in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-1.
Hewitt pushed the lead to 4-1 in the sixth when Scarborough scored on an Eagle error.
A Cam Simpson single to left field scored Wideman and Colby Durden, bringing the score to 6-1.
While the Hewitt offense was picking up ten hits, Dylan Lewkutz was shutting the Eagles down.
The senior went the distance, giving up five hits and striking out seven Oak Mountain batters on 100 pitches.
Hall, Wideman, and Scarborough (two runs scored) each had two hits for the Huskies. Ollis and Simpson had two RBIs each.
Coach Jeff Mauldin’s squad hosts Oak Mountain tonight at 6 PM before round one of the playoffs begins on April 26.
