BESSEMER — The man killed in a Bessemer home invasion on Wednesday, April 8, has been identified by Jefferson County authorities.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the man as Jeffery S. Burke, 36, of Bessemer. Burke was stabbed to death following a home invasion in the 1700 block of Fairfax Alley in Bessemer early Wednesday.
The incident leading to his death occurred around 7 a.m. Upon arrival, officers determined that Burke had been stabbed by the resident. Authorities said that Burke got into his car following the stabbing and fled. He proceeded to crash his vehicle in the 1600 block of Fairfax Alley.
Neighbors arrived to investigate the crash and found Burke, wounded.
He was pronounced dead at 7:18 a.m.
The man who stabbed Burke is in custody, but no charges have been filed.
