BIRMINGHAM – The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s spring 2020 commencement ceremony will look a bit different this year with more than 2,700 graduating students set to participate in multiple virtual ceremonies scheduled to begin on Friday, May 1, 2020.
The virtual ceremonies will be split into two days with students receiving graduate degrees and certificates graduating at 6 p.m. on Friday, May 1, 2020, and bachelor’s graduates with degrees from the College of Arts & Sciences, School of Education, School of Business, School of Engineering, School of Health Professions, School of Nursing and School of Public Health scheduled to graduate at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2020.
The university has asked graduating students to send in 15-second videos of themselves consisting of their favorite memories while at UAB, what they’ll miss the most and how they are celebrating their graduation while practicing social distancing. The university in turn will air videos with messages from campus leaders and student government leaders.
Those videos will be shown during the virtual ceremonies.
The ceremonies can be viewed on the university’s Facebook, Instagram and YouTube pages.
Spring graduates will be afforded the opportunity to walk in a future ceremony, the university said. Interested students will need to register. The form will be available to students approximately six weeks prior to the future ceremony date.
Students will also be granted a refund for regalia purchased for the spring commencement ceremony.
