TRUSSVILLE — Senior guard Jarvis Calhoun hit the game-winner with 15 seconds to play to lead Hewitt-Trussville to a 55-54 Class 6A, Area 12 win over visiting Gardendale on Tuesday.
Calhoun finished with a game-high 17 points for the Huskies (14-6, 3-0). Senior forward Will McCullough chipped in with 12 points.
The Hewitt-Trussville varsity girls defeated Gardendale 54-43 on Tuesday in a Class 6A, Area 12 matchup. Junior guard Cayla Dillard scored a team-high 14 points, senior Skylar Reaves scored 13 and senior Morgan McLain added 12. Senior Leigh McAnally chipped in with eight points and sophomore Gabby Hill added seven for Hewitt-Trussville (13-7, 2-1).
The Hewitt-Trussville basketball teams travel to Huffman on Friday for games at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Pinson Valley’s girls earned a Class 5A, Area 11 win at Moody on Tuesday, defeating Moody 61-26. Pinson Valley (5-14, 2-2) got 17 points from junior forward Nahtika Belser, 16 points from junior guard Alex Lowery and 14 points from senior guard Destini McKinney.
Pinson Valley’s boys also drilled Moody on Tuesday, winning 58-21. Junior Cordarius Reese led the Indians (12-7, 3-1) with 17 points. Senior guard Zach Jackson scored nine points. Senior guard Austin McKinney chipped in with six points and three steals. Senior forward Kerry Griffith didn’t score but pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Pinson Valley basketball teams host Center Point on Friday in big Class 5A, Area 11 contests.
The Clay-Chalkville varsity girls and boys host Oxford today at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively, in Class 6A, Area 9 games.
