LEEDS — A motorcycle ride and torch run trekking across the nation is making its only overnight stop in Alabama, in Leeds, on Friday, July 24, 2020.
The Tribute to Fallen Soldiers Northwest group started its journey from Eugene, Oregon, to the Arlington National Cemetery on Sunday, July 12. The ride plans to arrive at Arlington on Sunday, August 2. There will also be a wreath-laying provided by Tribute to Fallen Soldiers Northwest, at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Along the way, the non-profit corporation has been honoring fallen soldiers by escorting the ‘Fallen Soldiers Memorial Flame’ from state to state. The group makes stops to visit Gold Star families to remind them that their loved ones are not forgotten. The Gold Star families are presented with plaques as a thank-you.
American Legion Post 107 in Leeds will host the ride overnight Friday and will watch over the Fallen Soldiers Memorial Flame. The ride is scheduled to arrive in Leeds at 6:30 p.m.
The ride will continue its journey on Saturday, making a stop at Mellow Mushroom in Oxford to honor the life and service of Army Ranger Capt. Kyle Comfort, who was killed in Afghanistan on May 8, 2010.
