BIRMINGHAM — Physical tickets are becoming increasingly rare as college sports attempt to commence this fall amid coronavirus.
According to an announcement from UAB athletics on July 21, the school is moving to online ticketing for 2020-21.
“We’ve been looking at this for some time, but thought this was a good time to demonstrate that we are taking every necessary step to ensure the safety of our student-athletes, staff and fan base,” said Director of Athletics Mark Ingram. “Mobile ticketing is a huge piece to the puzzle, and I know our fan base will embrace this new method to enhance the overall gameday experience as we look forward to a very successful year of UAB Athletics.”
UAB has offered mobile tickets for single-game purposes for some time, but due to recent events, the athletics department is expanding the use of mobile ticketing to include season tickets and will provide as a default option to each ticketed event.
According to the school’s website, “Fans will enter Blazer events by using their smartphone to scan digital tickets to gain entry to each event.”
