BIRMINGHAM — Detectives from the Birmingham Police Department are conducting a homicide investigation following the shooting death of a 21-year-old woman on Saturday, Aug. 1.
The victim has been identified as Keanna Kelley, of Gadsden.
According to a release from BPD, officers responded to a domestic dispute call at 1131 Kawanda Lane in Birmingham at around 9:11 p.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, East Precinct Officers discovered the victim lying on the ground at the steps of the residence. She was unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound, and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
The preliminary investigation suggests Kelley attempted to force her way into the residence and a physical altercation ensued prior to the shooting. There is one person in custody.
This is an ongoing investigation.
