SYLACAUGA — Year 2 of the Jerry Hood era at Leeds got started with a last-second loss at Sylacauga Friday night.
Aggies quarterback Brayson Edwards connected with Luke Vincent for the game-winning score with 23 seconds remaining. The late touchdown broke a 27-all tie and sent the Green Wave (0-1) home with a 33-27 loss on opening night.
According to the Anniston Star, Leeds stormed out to an early 14-0 lead, before lightning sent both teams and their fans to the locker room. After a two-hour delay, Sylacauga (1-0) scored two quick touchdowns to tie the game, then took a 10-point lead in the third quarter following a Green Wave fumble.
For the Aggies, Maleek Pope led the way with 143 yards rushing on 30 calls.
Leeds was led offensively by Jonathan Ruff, who rushed and received for a combined 198 yards and a score. He and the Green Wave will take on Pell City next Friday in their home opener.
