BIRMINGHAM — A Birmingham Police Officer responding to a call about car break-ins was hit by a vehicle early on Monday, Sept. 21, 2020.
Police said the incident happened at the Lakeshore Ridge Apartment complex, just after 5 a.m.
“Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the suspect,” Sgt. Rodarius Mauldin said. “The suspect was driving a vehicle. During that interaction, the suspect struck the officer and fled the scene.”
Other units followed the vehicle and a chase ensued The driver refused to stop and got away in the area of Interstate 59/20 at Arkadelphia Road. No one is in custody.
The officer was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment.
