JEFFERSON COUNTY — Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Randy Christian said this morning that road conditions are “still very poor” and that non-emergency travel should be restrained.
“If you are in a safe place, stay there until conditions improve,” Christian said.
Christian said sand and chemical trucks are working to get traffic that has been stranded and gridlocked moving.
Once that happens, Christian said, those that can drive will be able to proceed to safety and emergency personnel should be able to get to those stranded that can’t move.
There are no reports of loss of life or serious injuries in the county so far, Christian said.
“We hope that blessing continues,” he said.
The Alabama Emergency Management Agency in a situation report this morning reported five deaths and 23 injuries as a result of Tuesday’s storms. The deaths occurred in Perry, Elmore and Tuscaloosa counties. The injuries occurred in Perry, Elmore, Marshall, Tuscaloosa and Russell counties.
