BIRMINGHAM – During Thursday’s board meeting, JefCoEd Superintendent Dr. Walter Gonsoulin Jr. presented a resolution commending the Pinson Valley High School football team on its Class 6A state championship.
The Indians (12-2) captured their third state crown last Friday night with a 23-13 victory over Spanish Fort (11-4). Senior standout Ga’Quincy McKinstry earned MVP honors after reeling in the go-ahead, 52-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Zach Pyron in the fourth quarter.
First-year head coach Sam Shade was on hand Thursday morning alongside Pinson Valley Principal Michael Turner to accept the resolution. The Pleasant Grove Spartans were also recognized for their appearance in the Class 5A state finals, where they fell to St. Pauls 29-21 last Thursday in Tuscaloosa.
