TRUSSVILLE — For the first time in over a decade, the annual “Love Your Neighbor” food drive to benefit T.E.A.M. (Trussville Ecumenical Assistive Ministry) will not occur in February. Due to COVID-19 precautions, the local ministry and its partner in the food drive, Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce, have made a joint decision to postpone indefinitely.
“We hope to hold a food drive around the first of the summer, depending on the COVID situation then,” said June Mathews, executive director of the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce. “In the meantime, we encourage those who would normally contribute food to our February drive to make monetary donations instead.”
Donations may be mailed directly to T.E.A.M. at P.O Box 632, Trussville 35173, or dropped off at the chamber office at 400 Main Street. Anyone wishing to make a donation over the phone with a debit or credit card should call the chamber office at (205) 655-7535.
Those giving $50 or more through the chamber the week of February 8-13 will receive a mini “Trussville” cutting board, good for small jobs in the kitchen or for display as a hometown keepsake.
“Just because we’re not collecting food items doesn’t mean we can’t support this ministry that does so much good in our community,” said Mathews. “Loving your neighbor isn’t about the size of your bank account; it’s about the size of your heart, so any amount would be appreciated. During this time leading up to Valentine’s Day, Love Your Neighbor by giving to T.E.A.M.”
T.E.A.M. (Trussville Ecumenical Assistive Ministry) is a non-profit ministry providing food to those in need.
The Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce seeks to provide leadership and a coordination of efforts that will contribute to the economic vitality and quality of life of the Trussville-area community.
