BIRMINGHAM — A 44-year-old man was shot and killed early on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at a house in Ensley.
Police identified the victim as Rodrigues Valides Holt, of Birmingham.
Officers first responded to the scene at 2722 Avenue J, at 3:52 a.m. They found Holt unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded and pronounced him dead on the scene.
Investigators believe the victim was involved in a physical altercation while he and several others were at the location partying. The suspect shot the victim and left the scene before police arrived, according to a press release.
“During this investigation, detectives discovered this residence was being used as an ‘illegal shot house’ involved in the illegal sale of alcohol and other illegal activities,” police said in the press release.
The suspect remains at large as the Birmingham Police Department’s Homicide Division and Vice/Narcotics Division conduct a joint investigation.
