SPRINGVILLE — Miss Alabama 1984 won Ms. Senior Alabama 2021 on Saturday, Aug. 28. The competition was held at Springville Camp and Conference Center.
Tammy Little Haynes, Ms. North East Alabama, won the title in the 35th anniversary of Ms. Senior Alabama. She will now go on to compete in Ms. Senior World, in Biloxi, Mississippi Nov. 6 – 10.
“I am blessed God has given me another opportunity and Avenue to be a light not only in my neck of the woods but across the state of Alabama,” Haynes posted on Facebook.
There were 14 women in the competition this year.
Haynes began singing in church at the age of two and she was crowned Jackson County’s Junior Miss in 1979. She was a finalist in the Alabama Junior Miss program that same year. After winning Miss Alabama in 1984, Little received the non-finalist talent award at Miss America and she was chosen to be a Miss America Showstopper.
While living in Nashville, Haynes performed at Opryland USA, opened for Diamond Rio, Vern Gosdin, and toured with Ty Herndon. She then served as entertainment for corporate events and was a headliner on cruise ships. She moved to New York, where she entertained at the resorts in the Poconos, Catskills and the Hamptons. She has also performed for presidents Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, and for troops in Honduras and Panama.
Haynes is a Community Liaison for Comfort Care Hospice and Home Health and she has three children with her husband, Glen.
The mission of Ms. Senior Alabama, Inc. is to provide advocacy for senior women via a statewide organization.
Haynes and her family have raised money for 10 years to fight ALS with Walk to Defeat ALS. The cause is dear to her heart because her father was diagnosed with the disease in 2000 and her brother-in-law was diagnosed this year. Haynes hopes to raise awareness about ALS and the need for hospice during her reign as Ms. Senior Alabama. She said she wished she had known about hospice during her father’s battle.
