TRUSSVILLE —The Hewitt Lady Huskies continued a successful early part of their season with a 2-0 win over Mountain Brook. The JV team also remain undefeated after blanking the Mountain Brook JV 2-0
Hewitt Varsity Girls 2, Mountain Brook 0
The Lady Huskies used strong defense and timely offense to whip 6A Mountain Brook, 2-0. Freshman Libby Armstrong scored the first goal of the night midway through the first half after a nice assist from senior Taylor Doss.
Later in the game, Jocelyn Davis placed a corner kick into the box that found Katie Harbin, who found the back of the net. The 2-0 was more than enough as the Huskies recorded their second straight shutout.
The win improves Hewitt to 5-2 on the season. The Lady Huskies travel to Hoover Friday for a cross city match.
Hewitt JV 2, Mountain Brook 0
The JV Huskies remain unbeaten after another stellar defensive performance. Hewitt scored in the first half when a curving line drive corner kicked by Janie Steele ricocheted off a Mountain Brook defender resulting in an own goal.
In the second half, Kathleen Bell crossed a ball to Lydia Bridges, who settled the ball and tapped in a goal.
Hewitt’s defense was again stingy, recording the sixth shutout of the season in 7 games.
The JV Huskies improve to 5-0-2, and host Auburn on Saturday.
Coach Lauren Wooten was pleased with the performance of both teams.
“The JV did a great job finishing and I have loved watching them play together. The are young but talented and have a great work ethic.”
“The varsity game could have gone either way. Mountain Brook is always a competitive organized opponent with a lot of talent. I am proud of our girls and their ability to hold a top 3 6A program to a shutout while finishing two goals.”
