BIRMINGHAM — The Birmingham Police Department have arrrested a suspect in the murder of Tamaiya Morton, who was killed on March 7, 2022 in the 900 block of 46th Place North.
Raven Thompson, 24, of Birmingham, Alabama has been arrested and charged with the crime.
Shortly after 6 p.m. on March 7, South Precinct officers were dispatched to the 900 block of 46th Place North (Rev. Dr. Morrell Todd Homes) on report of a person shot,” Public Information Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated. “Also, Shot Spotter alerted officers that several shots were fired in the area. Officers arrived on the scene where they observed a white SUV which had collided into a utility pole.”
Officers observed the victim in the driver’s seat of the vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, according to published reports.. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim dead.
The preliminary investigation suggests shortly after patrol officers arrived on the scene, officers from the Birmingham Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center alerted patrol officers to the whereabouts of a person of interest in the shooting. Officers went to a nearby apartment and made contact with the person of interest. Patrol officers took the suspect into custody.
