Alabama politics is about as predictable as the weather in our state.
Add another crazy chapter to the history books with this current race for the Republican nomination for the United States Senate in our state.
This past week the unendorsement of U.S. Congressman Mo Brooks by former President Donald Trump made the headlines and raised the stakes in the extremely competitive race for the United States Senate. Brooks’ support from the former president was a feather in his cap and was featured prominently in his ads. He also had a commanding lead early on, but recent polling has shown he has lost the advantage for now.
This is not the first time President Trump has played his hand in an Alabama Senate race. He endorsed both Luther Strange and Roy Moore in their races for the United States Senate. He then worked against his former Attorney General Jeff Sessions in his unsuccessful bid to return to the United States Senate.
The president has made it clear he would stay involved in the ongoing race here in our state with a new endorsement for another candidate in the campaign for the Republican nomination for the United States Senate. The two other leading candidates in the race are Katie Britt and Mike Durant. President Trump has not indicated who he will come out to support and whether it will be before the May 24th Primary or in the likely run-off in June.
We are now less than sixty days from voters heading to the ballot box in Alabama, but who will be the eventual nominee and what may happen next in this race is anyone’s guess.
