TRUSSVILLE — Kemp’s Kitchen owners have acquired Ironstone Pizza in Trussville and opened a new restaurant called Alpha Charlie Grill in Birmingham.
Kemp’s Kitchen owner, Brian Kemp, said Ironstone Pizza in Trussville will be opening on June 20, 2022.

“We’re going to have the original Ironstone menu because we purchased the Ironstone franchise and trademarks, so we’re going to do the original menu,” Kemp said. “We’ll have some more options and stuff for folks there in Trussville.”
Ironstone Pizza, located at Homestead Village (5445 Patrick Way in Trussville), will be open Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Kemp also announced that they had opened Alpha Charlie Grill at 4900 East Lake Boulevard in Birmingham.
“It’s right here by the airport,” Kemp’s Kitchen Marketing Director, Daniel Harp, said. “We opened it about three weeks ago.”
Harp explained the new restaurant is made out of airplanes, and customers can actually sit and watch the planes take off as far as food. Alpha Charlie Grill will be open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The idea of expanding and serving more people aligns with Kemp’s dream to feed people.
“He loves feeding people, and I think the more restaurants that we pop up, I feel like somehow or another people can be loved and kind of just experiencing a whole different type of restaurant from a local owner, instead of a corporation or corporate company,”
Kemp’s said the success they have experienced all “bounces back to great management.”
“It all boils down to having great management and a great staff,” Kemp said. “A lot of people ask me, ‘Well, how do you keep employees?'” Number one, God has been blessing us like crazy, but number two is that we offer benefits and treat them like family. I still interview all my staff at all the stores because I want to know them, and I want them to be a part of the family versus just being an employee.”
Ironstone Pizza in Trussville, Alpha Charlie Grill, and Kemp’s Kitchen are all associated with Brian Kemp.
Kemp’s Kitchen is still opening the new Trussville location, but Kemp said they experienced a slight delay and plans to be open within three to four months. The general manager for the Trussville location will be Sandra Forest, who formerly worked at Chick-fil-A for 32 years.
