Susie (Sue) Steele-Mahaffey, 94, was born on March 11, 1928, in Louisville, Kentucky, to William Pierce and Pearl Pierce.
Sue retired from VA Medical Center, Birmingham, where she worked from 1953 to 1985. She also worked at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 1985-1995. Sue has been a member of Huffman United Methodist Church since 1952. She was a member of the following lineage societies: Daughters of American Revolution, Colonial Dames 17th Century, Magna Charta Dames, National Society of Washington Family Descendants, Daughters of the Society of Cincinnati, and the Huguenot Society. In addition, sue was an active member of the Birmingham Historical Society and the Alabama Genealogical Society.
Sue is survived by her two sons, George L. Steele, Jr. (Connie) and Michael S. Steele (Jeanie). Five grandsons include Christopher Steele, Jonathon Steele (Wendy), Randall Steele (Leanne), and Joseph Steele (Joann). One granddaughter: Angela Steele (Charles). Great-Grandchildren include Matthew Steele (Crystal), Mason Steele, Madison Steele, Collin Wagnor, and Baylor Wagnor ( Karen). Tyler Steele, M.J. Steele, William Steele, Benjamin Steele, Julian Harris, and Elliot Edge. Two Great-great Grandchildren include Jaxson Steele and Amara Wagnor.
She was predeceased by her first husband, George L. Steele, Sr., her second husband, Edward Mahaffey, and grandson, Jason Allen Steele.
The funeral service will be at Jefferson Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Trussville on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, with Visitation at 11 a.m. and service at 12 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow at Forest Crest Cemet3ry on Hwy 78 East.
