JEFFERSON COUNTY — The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has identified four people killed during the four-day holiday weekend.
Marcus Cornelius Jackson, 38, of Birmingham, sustained a gunshot wound injury during a reported assault in the 1400 block of ½ Hueytown Road in Hueytown on Friday, Dec. 23, at 12:28 a.m.
Jackson was transported to UAB Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates stated the death is being investigated as a homicide. The Hueytown Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Clay Austin Parker, 41, of Bessemer, sustained injuries during a reported assault in the 1700 block of 6th Avenue North in Bessemer on Sunday, Dec. 25.
Parker was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:52 p.m.
“The death is being investigated as a homicide,” Yates stated.
The Bessemer Police Department is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
Charles Edward Smith, 25, of Adamsville, sustained gunshot wound injuries during a reported assault in the 2700 Jefferson Avenue Southwest in Birmingham on Monday, Dec. 26, at approximately 1:44 a.m.

According to the Birmingham Police Department (BPD), West Precinct officers responded to a call for a person shot at the location and observed an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene and pronounced Smith dead.
BPD’s Sergeant Monica Law stated in a previous press release that two other individuals, an adult female and a teenage victim, had been transported from the scene by private vehicle to an area hospital suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.
Kamarian Morris, 18, of Hueytown, sustained gunshot wound injuries during a reported assault on 14th Avenue Northwest at Carson Road in Birmingham on Monday, Dec. 26, at approximately 7:30 p.m.

BPD South Precinct officers were dispatched to UAB Hospital on a report of two males shot.
“Officers arrived at UAB Hospital and learned an adult male gunshot victim was pronounced deceased upon arrival; a juvenile male was struck by gunfire and is believed to have suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” BPD’s Officer Truman Fitzgerald stated in a previous press release. “The preliminary investigation suggests the victims were inside of a vehicle traveling in the 1400 Block of Carson Road when a suspect(s) fired upon their vehicle.”
The victims were driven to UAB Hospital via private vehicle.
Fitzgerald stated East Precinct officers are on the scene located in the 1400 Block of Carson Road.
“Details are limited in this investigation,” Fitzgerald stated. “Currently, there is no one in custody.”
