BIRMINGHAM — Paine Primary School, Paine Intermediate School, Hewitt-Trussville Middle School and the Service Association at Hewitt-Trussville High School are participating in the Birmingham Reads Book Drive Challenge as part of the Birmingham Reads project.
The Birmingham Reads project is presented by Better Basics and the Junior League of Birmingham.
As part of the Birmingham Reads project, the Trussville schools will be collecting new and gently used children’s books through Thursday, April 16. The books collected in the book drive will be distributed to at-risk students through Better Basics’ programs. By sending in children’s used books, participants will be making a difference for children in the Birmingham community. The participating school that collects the most books will win $1,000, and the school that collects the most books per pupil will win $500.
Community members are encouraged to participate in the book drive by dropping off donations at any of the Trussville schools, or by bringing the books to Brookwood Village on Friday, April 17 and drop them off at the Alabama’s 13 truck that will be parked outside the Books-A-Million entrance at Brookwood Village.
The Birmingham Reads project is in its sixth year and is a partnership between Better Basics and the Junior League of Birmingham.
