TRUSSVILLE –Two stations from Trussville Fire and Rescue responded to a Saturday morning fire at McPherson Oil Products in the Commerce Industrial Park off of U.S. Highway 11 across from Paine Elementary School.
Firefighters battled through thick black smoke to quickly extinguish the blaze which did not reach any of the buildings.
Chief Russell Ledbetter said the fire began in the cab of a truck and burned a hole through the tank.
“The truck is a total loss,” Ledbetter said. “The tank was empty or I think we would have had a much bigger fire to deal with.”
Ledbetter said the fire was reported by a passing motorist who saw smoke.
“No one was there. We had to force our way into the property through a locked gate,” Ledbetter said. “They park all of their trucks with the tanks empty, which is great. Otherwise, we could have had a really bad weekend.”
The investigation to determine the cause of the fire is underway.
There were no injuries reported.
