TRUSSVILLE — A 3-car accident this morning on Deerfoot Parkway left Clay-Chalkville students injured. Trussville police said a line of about 35-40 vehicles, including pickup trucks with students in the bed of the trucks, were travelling on Deerfoot Parkway this morning when police signaled them with emergency lights to divert into the North Park Church parking lot.
While the vehicles were being diverted into the parking lot, a vehicle stopped suddenly causing two cars to be rear-ended. The injured student was transported by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries. Three students were transported to hospitals by parents.
No arrests or citations were issued.
“These parades are illegal and they congest traffic,” Capt. Jeff Bridges of Trussville Police Department said. “Students need to go to school, and we won’t have these problems.”
Bridges also said Trussville police stopped a caravan of Hewitt-Trussville students at the intersection of Deerfoot Parkway and U.S. 11. Those students were diverted to their high school without incident.
