From Staff Reports
JEFFERSON COUNTY –. Weather permitting, the construction project to replace the 12th Avenue North Bridge that spans over I-59/20 just north of downtown Birmingham will continue as follows:
Monday, March 14 and Tuesday March 15 at 7 p.m., the I-59 southbound two lanes will be closed until approximately 5 a.m. between Tallapoosa Street and 31st N to perform construction activities and to also remove equipment and materials from the interstate median.
State Troopers will be on duty to provide safety for the traveling public as well as the construction crew.
All other scheduled work at this time to be performed during the week will not require any interstate lane closures.
Work on this project will require the closure of the 12th Avenue North Bridge until the new bridge is complete, approximately June of 2016.
A detour will be installed to direct traffic to use the nearby 31st Street North Bridge for access to 12th Avenue North and Vanderbilt Road while construction work is ongoing.
Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust arrival and departure times, observe work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme caution in this area. ALDOT thanks motorists for their patience during this construction to improve Alabama’s roadways.
