TRUSSVILLE – Although Trussville Health and Rehab may be a new facility in the area, the parent company has been in the healthcare business for more than 50 years.
Trussville Health and Rehab is owned by ProHealth Group, and currently plans to be up and running in the next two weeks.
“Our focus is to be the premier rehab facility in Trussville and its surrounding areas,” Ron Davidson, executive director of Trussville Health and Rehab said. “Our focus will be rehab, but we’ll also be offering long term care.”
Davidson said if there’s one thing he wants the community to know before the facility opens its doors, it’s that they are family owned and operated, and those family values the company was founded on will be carried out each day in the facility.
“We want to fill a need in the community, and we hope that our facility will be able to partner with the city to make a positive impact on the community and its residents.”
Although the facility will be opening officially in a few short weeks, Davidson said they’ll be accepting patients in waves, doing a “slow ramp up” to their 125 bed capacity. The state of Alabama mandates that facilities of this type admit a few residents upon opening, then following a state survey, the state will then give a green light to accept more residents.
“We’ve chosen to do a slow ramp up to go along with the state guidelines, but we also want to ensure that we keep the facility properly staffed, and have all systems in place to deliver the care these residents deserve,” Davidson said.
Davidson said that in order to make sure care is at an optimal level, he wants to make sure all staff members are properly trained and oriented to the facility before moving toward full capacity, which he said he expects to do within six months.
“We want to provide the best rehab and nursing care in the area, and to do that properly we need time to hire the best people and get them trained and oriented.”
The facility will be offering an innovative activities program and providing meals in a restaurant style dining room, where residents will be waited on, with meals being brought to their table.
“Our rehab teams’ mission will be to strengthen patients back to their baseline health levels and return them back to the community. We also will ensure that the facility is a comfortable home for our long term residents and that our activities engage them,” Davidson said.
Director of Nursing, Michelle Bonner, said that the reaction in the community is making her excited to finally be opening.
“A lot of the excitement for me is being able to start something new,” Bonner said. “We have the ability to hire some of the best professionals in the industry from all over the surrounding areas. We have the opportunity to open the facility and set a high standard for rehab and nursing care from day one.”
Because the facility won’t be going full capacity to start with, anyone looking to admit a loved one should call Trussville Health and Rehab (205)-655-3226, or stop by to fill out an admission application. Davidson said there’s already a waiting list for long-term care beds, and those wishing to be admitted to the rehab facility must have a three-night qualifying stay at the hospital, and then work with hospital case workers to discharge to Trussville Health and Rehab.
