TRUSSVILLE — Hewitt-Trussville’s John Ngaruiya continued his outstanding cross country season, taking first place in the boys Class 5A-7A 5000-meter run at the Dew It On The Trails meet at Point Mallard in Decatur on Oct. 15.
Ngaruiya’s time of 15:40.50 led the Huskies to a fourth-place finish. Hewitt finished with 102 points. Mountain Brook took first with 47 points. Hoover (77) and Homewood (97) led the way. Other Huskies who scored: Austin Atkinson (ninth, 16:14.80); Carson Spruiell (30th, 17:05.80); Josh Jenkins (37th, 17:17.50); Thomas Wolfe (38th, 17:17.60); Aaron Dykes (64th, 14:47.20); Damon Purdy (67th, 17:49.00). Ngaruiya was a couple of seconds off his personal best, but all the other scorers had personal or season bests.
The Huskies had a good showing with a ninth-place finish. Sydney Hall led the way with a 22nd-place finish, running the course in a personal record of 19:45.90. Every one of the Lady Huskies who scored set a PRs as well: Brooke Atkinson (52nd, 20:49.90); Ellie Kate Jones (73rd, 21:42.30); Helena Steen (75th, 21:43.30); Hannah Brien (84th, 22:15.30); Emily McMahon (91st, 22:15.60); Olivia Braswell (94th, 22:25.10).
The HTMS boys won the 2-mile run, led by Nathan Knox’s second-place finish. The HTMS girls finished fourth as Amelia Brady won the girls race.
