Trussville students will soon be able to make-up school days missed due to inclement weather via the Internet. According to a letter sent to TCS parent from superintendent, Dr. Pattie Neill, The Trussville City Schools calendar for 2012-2013 has no extra days built in should students miss school due to inclement weather
.
“While we hope that we do not experience inclement weather, we have a new proposal to make up the missed days,” Dr. Niell said in the letter. “Trussville City Schools has received a waiver from the State Board of Education to implement eLearning Weather Days for our system and this will be placed on the Board Agenda for approval January 14, 2013. Here is how it works:
“In the event a day is missed due to weather, an eLearning Weather Day can be implemented. On the day of inclement weather, students and parents can go to their child’s school website and click on ‘eLearning Weather Day.’ Then, students and/or parents can receive instruction on assignments their students should complete for the day missed from school. The student will be given 14 days (or more) from the date of the missed day to make up the assignments. The actual due date will be determined by the teacher and by circumstances such as loss of electricity, number of days missed, computer access, etc.
“Each school principal will be sending a letter to parents soon to explain how eLearning Days will work in their school or grade level. Principals will provide detailed information that will answer any questions you might have. All of your concerns will come to me from the school principal and will be considered by the TCS BOE on January 14.
“Again, we hope we have found an innovative approach to make-up days due to inclement weather. Look for more information to follow from your child’s school.”
