BIRMINGHAM − The Chicago White Sox announced on Tuesday, March 27, that Julio Viñas, the original Birmingham Baron’s season manager for 2018, will be away from the team indefinitely for personal reasons. Ryan Newman, former manager in 2016, has been announced to start the season filling the managing position with the Birmingham Barons.
Newman, who played a three-year career within the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, is a native of Hayward, CA., and is the son of former Major League catcher Jeff Newman.
The Barons will open their home season on Wednesday, April 11 at 7:05 o.m. at Regions Field in Birmingham. The ticket office at Regions Field is open Monday – Friday, 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.
