BIRMINGHAM — Five suspects have been arrested in connection with several robberies that targeted women at convenience stores in early June.
According to the Birmingham Police Department, the robberies occurred between Saturday, June 9 and Sunday, June 11. Police believe that they are connected. The victims were women who were entering or leaving cars near convenience stores at varying hours.
Pictures from surveillance footage were released by the Birmingham Police Department showing what they believed were seven suspects at the time. Now police say that one suspect was shown on two of the pictures and that a subject was identified in the pictures but will not be charged.
All of the suspects who were arrested are teenagers from Birmingham. Police obtained warrants charging them with robbery in the first degree.
Korday Slaton, 18, has three warrants for robbery in the first degree. The second suspect, Jerry Carter, 18, has one warrant for robbery in the first degree. Deshawn Cade, 17, is the third suspect with two warrants for robbery in the first degree. He has been charged as an adult, according to the BPD.
The fourth and fifth suspects are juveniles whose name were not released. One is a 14-year-old from Birmingham with two warrants for robbery in the first degree obtained against him. Another is a 15-year-old with one warrant for robbery in the first degree.
The adult suspects are in the custody of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office while the juvenile are in the custody of Family Court.
