TRUSSVILLE –A Trussville woman who is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals made her first court appearance on Thursday, according to court records.
A preliminary hearing date for Stephanie Thomas was set for October 25. She is accused of leaving her dog in a car in the Walmart from 4 a.m. until 11 a.m. on July 4.
Trussville police were called the scene when customers spotted the dog in the vehicle. The window was broken to rescue the dog which was alive at the time but later died.
Thomas has admitted to leaving the dog in the car. Jefferson County District Attorney Mike Anderton has said Thomas could face up to 10 years in jail.
