DENVER, Colo. —Jefferson County Probate Judge Alan King was seriously injured along with his wife, Karen King, and daughter, Kendall King, when they were struck by a vehicle in Denver on Thursday evening. Karen later died from her injuries after being transported to a local hospital.
Denver police have not released the names of the victims, but said all three had serious bodily injuries. Friends have confirmed the King family were the victims of the incident, asking that people remember Judge King and his daughter in their prayers.
The three were pedestrians when they were struck by a dark or black sedan, possibly a Cadillac. The vehicle would have damage to the front end and windshield, police said.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Quebec Street.
King has served as probate judge for 18 years. He originally announced that he would not seek a fourth term, but later changed his mind and was re-elected.
County Commissioner Joe Knight, who serves as the commission liaison to the probate court, said he was saddened by the news.
“It’s just a heartbreaking situation,” Knight said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Judge King and his family during this tragedy. We’re waiting to hear more about the judge’s condition and keeping him in our prayers.”
