ALABASTER — According to Carol Robinson of Al.com, the suspect in the rape of a juvenile in Alabaster was previously deported from the country due to a conviction for drug trafficking. The suspect illegally re-entered the United States prior to the alleged rape.
Robinson reported that 27-year-old Amancio Betancourt Martinez became the focus of a federal investigation after Alabaster Police reached out to U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement back in November, as part of an investigation into the reported rape of a juvenile female.
Federal and local law enforcement were able to locate Martinez and confirm that he was a foreign national, from Mexico, and had been deported from the United States on Dec. 31, 2015, after receiving a conviction in Shelby County on charges of trafficking cocaine, according to Robinson.
