TALLADEGA — Following in his father’s footsteps, Chase Elliot won the Nascar Cup Series Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway. This was the first victory of the season for Chevrolet.
In true Talladega fashion, the race ended with a dramatic crash after David Ragan hit William Byron, who hit Kyle Larson. Larson’s car flipped several times before coming to a stop. Elliot was far enough in front of the pack to avoid the wreck.
This was Elliot’s first win since October. He said he was blown away by the fans and he said the fact that his father won at Talladega twice made the victory that much sweeter. Speaking of victory, Elliot isn’t the only one celebrating. Chevrolet must be pleased one of its cars took home the race trophy. The win ended Ford’s seven-race winning streak at Talladega
Hendrick Motorsports teammate Alex Bowman finished second, followed by Ryan Preece, Joey Logano and Daniel Hemric.
