BIRMINGHAM — The death of an inmate of the Jefferson County Jail is under investigation.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the inmate was found around 12:05 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 28. The inmate was found in a work area, hanging by a bedsheet, according to investigators. Another inmate worker alerted the jail staff.
CPR was performed by jail staff until paramedics arrived. The inmate had a faint pulse when he was transported to the hospital. He died soon after arrival.
The inmate’s body was turned over to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office for examination.
