With no specific times or regulations in Trussville, Clay or Pinson, trick-or-treaters are expected across the area tonight for Halloween.
Trussville City Clerk Lynn Porter and Pinson Mayor Hoyt Sanders there are no regulations or specific times for trick-or-treating in their cities. Clay City Manager Ronnie Dixon said there is no special enforcement for Halloween, but a 9 p.m. curfew for teens 17 and younger is in effect.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office encourages trick-or-treaters to wear bright, reflective costumes. Parents should always accompany their children and carry a flashlight.
Here are some things to do when trick-or-treating:
Stay in a group and communicate where others will be going.
Only go to homes with a porch light on.
Remain on well-lit streets and always use the sidewalk or edge of the roadway facing traffic.
Never enter a stranger’s home or car for any reason.
Obey all traffic and pedestrian regulations.
Be sure to look both ways before crossing streets.
Cross busy streets at an intersection or crosswalk.
Take off your mask while walking from house to house.
Never consume unwrapped food items or open beverages that someone may offer you.
No treats should be eaten until they are thoroughly checked by an adult at home.
Law enforcement authorities should be notified immediately of any suspicious or unlawful activity.
