Results from the Maple Leaf Run in Trussville on Oct. 26 have been announced.
Prizes were awarded in each age group as well as overall in the 5K. The top boys and girls received prizes in the 9-and-under and 10-14 age groups.
In the kids’ run, first place in the age 10-14 girls’ division went to Kaleigh Rowe of Trussville, second place went to Emmie Phillips and third place went to Elizabeth Bentley.
In the 9-and-under category, Natalie Bentley finished first and Fionna Calma finished second.
On the boys’ side, Braden Hill finished first in the 9-and-under category, Landon Phillips finished second and Harper Nichols finished third.
In the 5K, overall female winners were first-place Lori Goldweber, second-place Mary Williamson and third-place Olivia Bland. The female master’s winner was Stacy Kadle.
Overall male winners were first-place Michael Niezgoda, second-place Nathan Miyasaki and third-place Chris Shelton. The overall male master’s winner was David Hall.
The oldest person to finish the race was 84-year-old Joe Harris, who has been running races for 45 years and during that time has logged more than 46,000 miles.
About 230 runners participated in the 5K and kids’ run combined. A portion of the proceeds from the event will go to the Trussville Area Chamber of Commerce’s scholarship fund and also to Turn Trussville Pink, a community project in support of breast cancer research. A check presentation was made to Kathy White of Turn Trussville Pink in the amount of $500.
