James Spann reports via alabamawx.com that rains will move into the Birmingham area at about 7 p.m. Thursday
“The rain will continue to move east the next few hours and we are all in for a soaker of a night,” Spann writes. “Birmingham the rain should begin by 7PM, while Anniston and Gadsden will likely see the rain start closer to 8 p.m.”
“Rain will be heavy at times and once it starts at your location is it will last several hours, according to Alabamawx.com. “There could be a few storms embedded within the rain shield, but with the clouds and and lack of daytime heating today, instabilities are very low. For this reason the severe weather threat is almost non-existent. With any storms tonight, there could be some gusty winds, but the main weather story tonight will be the soaking rain. Most of Alabama has been relatively dry the last few weeks, so the ground will be able to absorb most of the rain that falls. There will be some ponding on the roadways, and in the right circumstances there could be some very isolated areas of flash flooding. The rain will last through the overnight hours.”
