BIRMINGHAM — There will be no charges filed in the death of a Birmingham bar employee that died after an altercation at work.
Kim Paul Walker, 63, of Birmingham, was found around 6:45 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019, after his co-workers called for a welfare check.
Birmingham Police said Walker’s co-workers were concerned after Walker suffered a head injury while helping escort unruly patrons out of the bar where he worked. The incident happened around 2 a.m. Walker went home to his apartment at 951 18th Street South.
Officers were asked to conduct a welfare check on Walker after he didn’t return for work. When officers arrived at the apartment, they found him unresponsive. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded along with the Jefferson County Coroner and pronounced Walker dead on the scene.
The Birmingham Police Department investigated the death as a homicide. After investigators presented the information gathered on the case to the Jefferson County District Attorneys Office for review, the DA’s office ruled the actions of the identified subject involved were not willfully and knowingly to injure the victim. No criminal charges will be filed.
