TRUSSVILLE –The 2nd annual Super Chili Bowl competition kicks off at noon today at the Trussville Civic Center when over 20 teams will face off for the title of Grand Champion. Visitors to the event will be able to sample the team entries and select a People’s Choice winner, as well.
In all, competitive team awards include the grand champion; trophies for first, second and third places; best booth; plaque for best design, them and decoration; best costume; and plaque for most unique costumes, overall presentation and performance to support team theme.
A people’s choice award will be given to a team from either the competitive or fun categories.
Admission to the event is $5 in advance and at the door. Children ages 10 and under get in free.
Setup begins at 7 a.m. on Feb. 1, and booth judging will begin at 11 a.m. Chili judging begins at 11:30 a.m., public chili sampling begins at noon and awards will be presented at 2:30 p.m.
The grand champion award last year went to the “Fire In the Hole” Amerex Corp. team. Team members included Mark Lewis, Jeff Layfield, Mark Bailey and Heath Posey.
